Struggle against dams in Thailand and women in Haiti for people’s sovereignty | Issue #9
Hello, sisters of the world!
The Haitian people are once again facing imperialist interference in their fate. The island in the Caribbean is experiencing growing violence and systematic violations, control over territories by armed groups, repression, and subjection of the people’s interests to transnational capital. Living conditions in urban and rural areas are becoming dramatically worse. The access to food and the circulation of peasant production has been deeply affected. In the video published on Capire this week, Islanda Micherline, of La Via Campesina Haiti, denounces the role of countries in the Global North that, through the UN Core Group for Haiti, have been operating the new attempt to intervene in the country.
We also published an interview with Chayuda Boonrod, a member of the Assembly of the Poor (AoP), a grassroots organization based in Thailand that struggles for self-determination and right to resources with both rural and urban communities. During our chat, Chayuda shared with us aspects of the current political context of Thailand, and the struggle of AoP against dams’ impacts in the country.
And in recent weeks, we echo voices of Palestinian militants who took part in seminars organized by women with La Via Campesina and the World March of Women on March 21st and 22nd. We also suggest you check out the gallery of feminist posters in solidarity with Palestine, which we organized in partnership with the International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA), ALBA Movements, and the Utopix collective. Click here if you want to read other pieces previously published by Capire on the Palestinian cause.
