Hello, sisters of the world!
In recent weeks, we shared an account of the experiences of struggle and alternative-building by women in Caracas, Venezuela. The accounts we shared were gathered in April 18–21, during the Conference of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America—Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the National People’s Consultation ¡Proyectos del pueblo! held in more than 49,000 communal councils in 24 states across the country. The article addressed women’s participation in the public consultation, communal feminism, and women’s organization in communes.
We also published an article by Lucineia Miranda de Freitas, a leader in the gender sector of Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (MST), celebrating the 40 years of the movement. The article addresses the many advances in women’s participation and their political contributions. Lucineia also explains how the alliance with feminist movements provides tools to understand the connections between capitalism, racism, and patriarchy in rural areas, and to formulate a form of struggle to fight the whole system.
Also, militant women with several movements that take part in and build the process of the ‘Berta Cáceres’ International Feminist Organizing School (IFOS) came together in May in Antigua, Guatemala, for another stage of coordination and reflection. We published an account about this moment of reflection about the political practices and the preparations for the School of Facilitators, which will be held in August this year, as well as for the new international iteration of the School, which will take place in Kenya in May 2025. Partnering with Real World Radio, we interviewed Maudy Ucelo, a World March of Women militant in Guatemala. In the interview, Maudy addresses the importance of good living and of restoring and keeping the ancestral knowledge and practices of communities. The recording of the interview is also available in Spanish.
