This week on Capire | 18 Years of Telesur and National Rebellion Day in Cuba
Hello, sisters of the world!
The TV channel Telesur was broadcast for the first time on July 24th, 2005 in Caracas, Venezuela. Since then, Telesur has consolidated itself and became an international outlet, forging alliances across Latin America and the Caribbean. To learn more about the history of the channel and its fundamental work reporting on political processes and events from Latin America, we interviewed the Colombian journalist and Telesur co-founder Patricia Villegas. “When you look back, you see your ability to resist, to reinvent yourself, and reorganize your own life for a collective project. That’s Telesur,” Patricia says.
And on July 26th, we celebrated National Rebellion Day in Cuba, which remembers the pre-revolutionary struggles on the island. To pay tribute to this date, we shared an excerpt from an interview with the Cuban guerrilla fighter Haydée Santamaria, who recounts her experience in the assault on the Moncada Garrison on July 26th, 1953, 70 years ago.
