This week on Capire | Climate Change Resistance in the Philippines, Food Sovereignty in the WMW, and Rural LGBT+ Struggle
Hello, sisters of the world!
In the Philippines, the population is enduring natural disasters driven by climate change. In recent decades, ever stronger typhoons have hit the area, leaving an ever greater trail of destruction. And while some risk mitigation measures have been taken, the country still lacks state and international policies to fight the root causes of climate change. An article by the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women – Asia Pacific (CATW-AP) denounces the industrial model of increased extraction and productivity and shares their political views on the struggle against climate change and for a just transition paradigm.
In addition to tackling the causes of climate change, rural social movements around the world are building the struggle for the right to sexual and gender diversity. We spoke with Luana Oliveira, from Brazil, a member of the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) and La Via Campesina LGBT+ Collective, about the struggle for LGBT+ rights in the countryside and the pursuit of justice in the Lindolfo Kosmaski murder case.
And this week we launched the video Food Sovereignty: A Feminist Struggle of the World March of Women, produced by the World March of Women and Capire. Through personal accounts, interviews, and records by militants of the WMW from around the world, the video looks back on the history of the movement in defense of food sovereignty and feminist networks and practices that have been producing and ensuring food for thousands of years. Watch it:
