👋 Hello, sisters of the world! Check out our new content:
🗾 Reporting from Miyakojima, Okinawa: A Denunciation of Military Advances Against Southern Japan
Hayako Shimizu, with the Miyakojima Residents’ Association “Missile Basis Are Not Necessary,” from Okinawa, Japan, addresses in this article the history of Okinawa and the conflicts this territory has witnessed since 1944. With wars and militarizations escalate around the world, Hayako denounces the reality of the peoples of Miyakojima, the “damaged island,” and US and Japanese imperialism in the occupation of this territory that she describes as the Global South in southern Japan. She writes, “Joint exercises between Japan and the United States have become the norm in the region. [...] Miyakojima community centers were given ‘body bags’ for local residents.”
🇵🇸 An Endless Genocide in Palestine
The Palestinian genocide in Gaza, which has escalated since October 7th, 2023, opened the way for Israel to promote an even more devastating occupation of the West Bank. In 2024, more land has been stolen in this area than in the previous 30 years combined, since the 1993 Oslo Accords. In this article, we share data and accounts from Palestinian activists with La Via Campesina (LVC) denouncing the escalating genocide, destruction, and occupation of Palestine. We also share pictures and information about the LVC international brigade that visited the West Bank in December 2024. International brigades and the work of foreign volunteers in the region have been an active form of solidarity between the peoples who are pushing local authorities and providing safety and security strategies for the people and their food and livestock productions.
