Peasant Feminism in Tanzania and Regional Integration in the Americas | Issue #41
Hello, sisters of the world!
This week we published the transcripts, a video, and the audio recording of an interview with Theodora Pius, the Head of Program of the National Network of Smallholder Farmers Groups Tanzania [Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima Tanzania – MVIWATA], a member of La Via Campesina and the World March of Women Tanzania chapter. In the interview, granted during the Dilemmas of Humanity International Conference and produced collectively by Capire and Brasil de Fato, Theodora addressed the impacts of transnational companies on the lives of farmers in Tanzania and land grabbing for profit affecting African land. She spoke about the solutions proposed by the peasantry in the country and the meaning of building grassroots peasant feminism.
We also shared a brochure of writings produced by Capire and the World March of Women about grassroots feminism and regional integration. In never-before-published interviews, Alejandra Laprea and Norma Cacho address the organization of the World March of Women in the Americas and the movement’s international challenges. The texts by Alejandra Angriman, Elpidia Moreno, and Karin Nansen are edited versions of speeches they delivered on the webinar “Feminism and Regional Integration,” held in November 2023. The texts by Ana Priscila Alves and Irene León feature the contributions they provided at the 3rd Dilemmas of Humanity Conference in their regional and international stages, in September and October 2023. The writing by our dear sister Nalu Faria, originally published in 2021, was chosen to open our publication, keeping her memory alive, as well as her legacy and her accurate views on the strategies toward building grassroots feminism.
