This week on Capire | Profile of Josie Mpama and Interview with Ariel Salleh
Hello, sisters of the world!
This week we shared an excerpt from the article “Josie Mpama,” part of the series “Women of Struggle, Women in Struggle,” by Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. Born Josephine Winifred Mpama on March 21st, 1903, Josie actively contributed to women’s organizing in South Africa for the resistance to colonial oppression and the apartheid system. The article tells the story of Josie and the historical and political context of South Africa in the early 20th century.
Back to the 21st century, we also published an interview with Ariel Salleh, who argues, “A materialist ecofeminism combines a feminist, a decolonial, and a socialist response to the 21st century ecological breakdown.” The Australian materialist ecofeminist spoke with Capire about the current offensives of the capitalist, colonial, and patriarchal system against life on the planet, including the financialization of nature, and addresses alternatives that are being built. The recording of the interview is also available in English.
