Sahrawi Women’s Day, War in Sudan, and Latin American Integration | Issue #5
Hello, sisters of the world!
This week on Capire, we shared an article by Alejandra Angriman on the role of feminism in peoples’ integration in the Americas. “Latin American feminisms have a virtue: they have created a political identity that is capable of radically challenging, in the regional scenario, the systems of knowledge and organization of society,” she points out.
We also published an analysis by the World March of Women militant Omayma Elmardi on the recent events happening in Sudan. She explains the political and economic context that led to the ongoing war that has broke out in early 2023, and the grassroots struggles for demilitarization and democratic transition in Sudan.
February 18th is Sahrawi Women’s Day, a date that marks the Moroccan attack on the temporary camps where women, older adults, and children who were fleeing the war and occupation of their territory were living. We call everyone to stand in solidarity with the people of Western Sahara by watching and sharing the video A Flag in the Sand: Sahrawi Women Building Sovereignty, which features the lives and struggles of women who live in Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria.

We believe that solidarity is a powerful tool in the struggle for liberation. This is why our organizations denounce the violence, the occupation of lands, the encroachment of nature, and genocide that have been tormenting the Palestinian people for decades. Submit feminist posters in solidarity with Palestinian women and the Palestinian struggle before February 29th. Read more information here!
To keep and expand Capire as a tool of internationalist grassroots feminism, in 2023 we launched an invitation and a call for donations and support, so that everyone who follows us can contribute with grassroots feminist communications. Please consider donating to Capire!
