This week on Capire | Struggles in Jujuy, LGBT+ Pride, and Feminist Education
Hello, sisters of the world!
In Jujuy, Argentina, teachers, public workers, students, union leaders, and various other categories are at the forefront of a major mobilization for salary increases and in opposition to the ongoing undemocratic constitutional reform in the region. In an article published this week, Alicia Raquel Coca from the World March of Women in Argentina discusses what is at stake in Jujuy's political context and highlights the role of women and indigenous communities as protagonists in these mobilizations.
And this week, we celebrate International LGBT+ Pride Day. We released a special newsletter on the 28th, compiling the content previously published in Capire about popular, feminist, and LGBT+ struggles around the world. If you haven't received it, click here to read it! In addition to the newsletter, we published an article by Luiza Mançano and Fabiana Benedito, activists from the World March of Women in Brazil, denouncing the appropriation of the date by transnational corporations. They argue for pride "not as a product, but as a celebration of forms of life, sexuality, and relationships that disrupt heteropatriarchy".
And in the struggle against heteropatriarchy, capitalism, racism, and colonialism, we find the women of Via Campesina, who held their 1st Women's School in March of this year. The activities of this school, aimed at strengthening popular peasant feminism, were captured in the video "We are going to till and study!". In the video, women from different regions of the world recite the articles of the Peasants' Rights Declaration. Watch it!
